Company History

Toepfer Construction Co., Inc. Founded

Toepfer Construction Co., Inc. was founded in 1962 by Carl M. Toepfer, Jr., with the support of his wife May M. Toepfer. Our company began as a general contracting firm, building apartment communities and military housing.

Disaster Restoration

In 1968, a moratorium was placed on new connections to the natural gas line, restricting new construction in the Washington DC area. This forced Carl Toepfer to seek alternate means of doing business. He was asked to complete a fire restoration project for an existing client, and thus the restoration business was born.

Moved to Ashwood Drive

As the company developed and business grew, we required additional office and warehouse space. Partnering with two other non-competing companies, Carl Toepfer joined Ashwood Associates and built the large complex at 8540 Ashwood Drive in Capitol Heights, Maryland, which remained our office for 10 years.

Moved to Ritchie Road

We built our present office and warehouse in 1981 for another company. Immediately after it was completed, we were offered to purchase the property. Our current building consists of 10,000 square feet of space and it sits on one acre of property in Capitol Heights, Maryland.

Awarded Property Management Association Associate Member of the Year

Honoring our company’s efforts to serve the Property Management Industry, and for our ability to fulfill the needs of our clients, we were awarded the highest honor that an associate member can receive.

Sharon Toepfer Burns Becomes President

With 19 years tenure at the company, Sharon Toepfer assumed the position of President of the company.

3rd Generation Toepfer Family Started

With the first of several of Carl & May Toepfer’s grandchildren joining the company, Toepfer Construction Co., Inc. is proud to welcome the 3rd generation of Toepfers to the family business.

With much excitement, we celebrated our 50th year in business in 2012.

Awarded Property Management Association Associate Member of the Year

Toepfer Construction once again received top honors from the Property Management Association for our degree of involvement in PMA, our professionalism and our interest in and support of the industry.

Toepfer Construction has served over 10,000 restoration clients

Toepfer hits a milestone by serving the 10,000th client.
